From one mountainto five continents
Kandoo Adventures’ story began in 2009, when avid trekkers Paul and Jane Deakin grew frustrated searching for a tour operator offering the high quality experience they were looking for on Kilimanjaro – so they organised it themselves! From this humble beginning, the Kandoo Adventures you know today began to take shape.

© Adobe Stock2009Kandoo started life as Private Expeditions and was setup by avid adventurers Jane and Paul Deakin, who had experienced poor guiding services and seen unscrupulous practices. This motivated them to do things better! The key feature was to set up their own operations rather than rely on out-sourcing to third party operators. This allowed them complete control over how a trek operated, and also ensured that it was local communities who benefitted. The first destination offered in 2009 was Kilimanjaro. Experienced local guide Emanuel Nguma was chosen to head up our new team in Tanzania. To this day, our team on Kilimanjaro lead the way on safety, service and expertise and we set the standard that other operators follow.
© Istock2012Following huge success in operating Kilimanjaro climbs, we applied the same approach in Nepal, offering both classic trekking routes and more challenging peak climbs. Again, a local operation was set up in Kathmandu, headed up by Pimba Tenjing Lama, two-time Everest summiteer. This was closely followed by our operation in Cusco, Peru offering a range of different trekking routes to Machu Picchu. Local guide Jose Quispe Laguna took on management of all our treks in the Andes Mountains.
© Kandoo2015We came to realise that many of our travelers were achieving things they never thought possible. We were proving that a Kandoo attitude and the right support will take you further than you ever imagined. Hence, we rebranded as Kandoo Adventures to better reflect our ever growing range of destinations and our passion for making challenging destinations accessible to anyone with a sense of adventure and a descent level of fitness.

We established our own team in Bhutan, managed by local guide Tandin Tshering and began offering more trekking routes in this lesser visited corner of the Himalaya. We also began partnering with an experienced guiding company in Argentina to offer climbs of Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America and one of the famed 7 Summits.

From our early beginnings in Tanzania 10 years earlier, we now have guides leading adventures on 5 continents, from Patagonia to the Arctic Circle. No matter where you choose to travel with us, we stay true to our values of local experts, quality customer service, responsibility and safety. Providing inspirational experiences that benefit our travelers and the communities we visit.
